Cancel the cut to Universal Credit & extend for all

In less than 24 hours, MPs will be voting on the government’s decision to scrap the £20 a week income boost to Universal Credit.

Will you join our Unite Community members in urgently piling the pressure on our MPs to do the right thing and vote against the chancellor’s cut this Wednesday (15th)?

Please email your MP now. Tell them that six million people – many of them Unite members and already working – are facing a financial cliff edge when Universal Credit is cut on 5 October. Just click the link, enter your details and press send.

Charites are warning that one million households will lose 10 per cent of their income overnight when the chancellor, Rishi Sunak, snatches back the £20 a week with one in four children made poorer as a result.

40 per cent of UC claimants already in jobs. Now some of the country’s lowest paid workers, the ones who worked right through the pandemic in social care, the NHS and as refuse collectors are about to be hit with a double whammy from a £1,000 a year cut to Universal Credit and tax hike to fund social care.

We think the government should be focused on ending in work poverty, instead of cutting what remains of the safety net, because without it poverty and homelessness will soar.

Let’s make sure they know that this money isn’t paying for luxuries. For millions of families it’s literally meant the difference between putting food on the table and heating their homes.

Thanks for your support. Please ask your families and friends to email their MPs too. In solidarity
